In an interview with Becker's ASC Review, Dr. Sayeed discussed the importance of establishing a communication pathway between pain management and primary care physicians. "You have to reach out to primary care physicians, hear their concerns and then address them," he says. "We found that their concerns are the same as ours. Once we got their attention, we created a system of communication that is based on electronic medical records. When a primary care physician logs in and sees the patient's record, a yellow screen comes up and informs them that the patient is on opioids, and they are able to initiate a chronic pain communication pathway with a pain management physician in their network of doctors. We built that into our electronic medical records that we share in our entire network of physicians."
