1. During the first six months of 2016, the U.S. government reported 239 new healthcare fraud prosecutions. Last year, there were a total of 622 healthcare fraud prosecutions.
2. Based on these trends, researchers predict there will be 478 total healthcare fraud prosecutions by the end of this year, indicating a 23.2 percent drop from 2015.
3. Healthcare fraud cases this year are down 9.5 percent from 2006.
4. In 2011, there were 1,235 healthcare fraud cases, with that figure dropping to 700 cases in 2012.
5. Healthcare fraud is currently the leading type of fraud charge, followed by mail fraud and conspiracy.
