White House extends payer deadline for ACA participation — 4 insights

The White House administration extended the deadline for payers to decide if they want to participate in the ACA exchanges for 2018, NPR reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Payers have three extra weeks to decide whether they'll offer plans through the exchanges and how much they'll charge for the plans.

2. NPR reports some payers are undecided because of the unclear nature of subsidy payments. President Donald Trump threatened to eliminate the payments if the ACA wasn't repealed and replaced.

3. HHS said the deadline is to allow payers an opportunity to plan ahead if the government eliminates the subsidies.

4. If the subsidies are eliminated it's expected payers will increase premiums by double-digits, NPR reports.
