What you should know:
1. The House Health Care Committee recently approved S.31, a bill that will promote price transparency in the state. If approved, hospitals and ASCs will provide patients a single bill with their entire financial obligation.
2. ASCs and hospitals will also have to provide patients information on financial assistance, billing and collection practices.
3. Separately, the House Ways and Means Committee approved a proposal that would establish an ASC licensing fee program. If passed, ASCs will pay a $600 licensing fee to fund the Department of Health’s ASC licensing program.
4. The licensing program was one of two options the House Health Care Committee considered before they advanced the bill. The house was also considering a provider tax, as well as a proposal that would have granted the state’s approval body budgetary review powers. Legislators ultimately tabled both ideas.
