US uninsured rate lowest ever in 2016: 4 key notes

As President Donald Trump begins his ACA repeal, CDC data said the nation’s uninsured rate was at its lowest ever at 8.8 percent in 2016, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. When former President Barack Obama signed the ACA into law in 2010, the nation’s uninsured rate was 16 percent. The CDC estimates 20.4 million people gained coverage under the ACA.

2. California made the largest gains lowering its unemployed population to 7.1 percent.

3. President Trump wants to “roll back and replace the law,” with a more affordable option.

4. To date, the Republicans have not developed a viable alternative to the ACA.
