Here’s what you should know:
1. If United’s value-based spending continues growing at this rate, the payer will surpass its goal of $75 billion by 2020.
2. Aetna, Anthem, Cigna and Humana are also increasing their value-based pay spending, shifting away from traditional fee-for-service models. Aetna, for example, has a goal to shift 75 percent of its reimbursement to value-based models by 2020.
3. UnitedHealthcare President and COO Dan Schumacher said, “We’ve been very successful in that migration towards a population orientation. If you look at where that sits today, about half of our value-based spend is in the more progressive relationships that orient around population outcomes.”
