UnitedHealth places new restrictions on certain hysterectomy types

UnitedHealth has put in place new restrictions on hysterectomies designed to promote the use of vaginal hysterectomy, according to a StarTribune report.

Vaginal hysterectomies performed in an ambulatory surgery center or hospital outpatient department will not need prior authorization, but the payer will require prior authorization for laparoscopic and abdominal hysterectomies.
