UnitedHealth Group to offer bundled payments for hip, knee & spine: 5 things to know

UnitedHealth Group will participate in bundled payments for spine surgeries as well as hip and knee replacements in 2017, according to Forbes.

Here are five things to know:

1. UnitedHealth Group plans to offer these bundled payments in more than 40 markets by the end of 2017.

2. Physicians and hospitals participating in the bundle program will bear responsibility for the quality and cost of care through the entire episode of care.

3. Providers will receive a single payment for the entire episode of care.

4. Michelle Lobe, UnitedHealthcare’s vice president of network strategy and innovation, said bundled payments allow providers to “share in the gain,” according to Forbes.

5. To participate in the bundled payment program, facilities must meet quality and outcome requirements of centers of excellence, determined by UnitedHealth Group.
