Trump aide: Healthcare provision can be 'dropped' from tax bill — 5 insights

An aide to President Donald Trump said the president will not require a healthcare provision in the Senate's tax bill, CNBC reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. President Trump wanted to repeal the ACA's individual mandate through the tax bill. However, White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said the president will not "insist on including" the repeal.

2. The current form of the tax bill includes a provision to repeal the individual mandate.

3. Mr. Mulvaney said, "If it becomes an impediment to getting the best tax bill we can, then we are OK with taking it out."

4. Senate leadership does not currently view the mandate repeal as an impediment.

5. Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, said if the individual mandate is repealed, any benefits from the tax bill would be erased.
