Trump administration to maintain ACA’s cost-sharing subsidies to payers during lawsuit: 4 points

A Trump administration official told the Hill that HHS will continue granting cost-sharing reduction payments to insurers while litigators pursue the House's lawsuit against the Obama administration.

Here are four points:

1. House Republicans are suing the Obama administration for its cost-sharing reduction program, which paid insurers that gave discounted deductibles to low-income Americans in the ACA exchanges.

2. Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told reporters on March 30, 2017, the administration sees the merit in the funds while the lawsuit is ongoing.

3. A Washington, D.C.-based America's Health Insurance Plans spokesperson told the Hill the Trump administration should do more than continuing the payments to revive payers' confidence in the marketplace.

4. AHIP wants officials to either appropriate the payments for 2018 or give a different strategy to ensure payers will receive the money in 2018.
