Definitive Healthcare, a data analytics firm, surveyed 188 healthcare leaders on outpatient trends to compile its report.

Three things to know:

1. Lower costs are the biggest advantage of outpatient care, according to 36.7 percent of respondents. ASCs don’t require the same overhead as hospitals, so surgeons are able to perform the same procedures at the ASC as the hospital at a lower cost and then potentially pass the savings off to patients.

2. More convenient recovery was another advantage of outpatient care 28.7 percent of respondents cited, with many patients preferring to recover at home after having surgery at an ASC

3. Lower infection rates compared to hospitals are an advantage of ASCs, 16.7 percent of respondents said. When patients recovering at home, they are less likely to acquire an infection.
