Texas Doctors Aim to Collect 1M Signatures for Permanent Medicare Fee Fix

The Texas Medical Association has launched a campaign to collect 1 million signatures in support of replacing the sustainable growth rate formula that threatens to cut Medicare physician reimbursements by 21.3 percent, according to a report by the Dallas Morning News.

Technically, the fee cut has been in effect since April 1, because Congress failed to pass a temporary fee-fix before it went on a two-week recess on March 26. However, CMS has promised to hold off on implementing the reduction until Congress returns on April 12.

“The only acceptable solution is for Congress to repeal the flawed Medicare formula and replace it with a stable, fair funding mechanism that reflects the true costs of providing care,” said TMA President-Elect Susan R. Bailey, MD.
