1. Sen. Schumer said he would increase his Medicare defense before the confirmation hearing of Donald Trump’s pick for HHS Rep. Tom Price, MD (R-Ga.).
2. President Trump said he wouldn’t change Medicare during his campaign, but a Trump administration spokesperson said this week the president wants to use Medicare’s buying power to influence prescription prices.
3. Sen. Schumer said his caucus would oppose any plan to scale back Medicare or replace it with a voucher-based program.
4. Sen. Schumer told Syracuse.com, “Every senior and every American should hear this loudly and clearly. I will fight with every fiber of my being to beat back these harsh efforts to weaken, wound and destroy Medicare.”
