Sen. Sanders to introduce single-payer healthcare bill in September — 4 key notes

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., told Politico he would introduce a single-payer "Medicare for all" healthcare bill when Congress returns from recess in September.

Here's what you should know:

1. Mr. Sanders admitted the bill has little chance to pass Congress or to be signed into law by President Donald Trump, if it was to pass.

2. Mr. Sanders has been a longtime proponent of single-payer healthcare. He touted single-payer healthcare during his 2016 run for president.

3. Democrats like Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., support the measure.

4. Mr. Sanders called the bill the "most significant step forward legislatively since I suspect the creation of Social Security."
