Report: How should states handle drug access in the commercial payer market? 4 things to know

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners issued a report about how states can improve consumer drug access amidst rising prices, according to Kaiser Health News.

Here are four things to know:

1. States should consider limiting the number of cost-sharing tiers insurers have in a plan.

2. To reduce out-of-pocket costs, states may want to stop payers from charging coinsurance.

3. The report recommends states forbid insurers from changing their list of covered drugs throughout the year.

4. The report includes strategies for individual and small group markets as well as large group plans.
