Political, regulatory uncertainty deterring Anthem from decision on 2018 ACA individual plans: 4 key notes

Anthem, the largest provider of individual health plans nationwide, said it is not sure if it will offer ACA individual plans next year, according to The New York Times.

Here are four key notes:

1. The payer is not making a decision at this point due to political and regulatory uncertainty.

2. Anthem sells ACA individual plans in 14 states currently.

3. Anthem CEO Joseph Swedish will talk with those state regulators about its plan to offer partial plans or completely withdraw from those marketplaces.

4. Other dominant payers including Aetna and Humana said they will not offer ACA plans in 2018.
