Physicians split on single- versus multi-payer system: 7 survey insights

Slightly more physicians prefer a single-payer healthcare system compared to a multiple-payer system, a MDLinx.com survey found.

Here are seven survey insights:

1. Forty-eight percent of those polled favor a single-payer system with 26.2 percent strongly supporting a single-payer system.

2. Forty-five percent prefer a multi-payer system.

3. Of those polled, 9.7 percent reported feeling neutral.

4. Forty-six percent reported a single-payer plan would reduce quality of care and 35 percent said it would boost quality of care.

5. Regarding a single-payer plan’s impact on patient care, 19.1 percent said it would have no impact.

6. Single-payer systems would make medical practice’s business aspects more manageable, according to 48.7 percent of those polled.

7. Sixty-seven percent said a single-payer system would lower physician income while only 7.6 percent said it would increase physician income.
