Marilyn Tavenner, acting administrator for CMS, told an American Medical Association conference in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday that the agency will “reexamine the pace at which [it implements] ICD-10.” She said CMS should issue a statement on the topic in the coming days or weeks.
Physician organizations, including the American Medical Association, have previously called for a delay of the implementation date, going as far as to say that a transition to ICD-10 is unnecessary and overly burdensome.
AMA president-elect Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD, said Tuesday that the organization “welcomes the opportunity to discuss ICD-10 implementation, along with many overlapping regulatory requirements that are burdening physician practices.”
