Philippine government funding program for US coding, billing certification — 5 insights

The Philippine Department of Information and Communications Technology will fund a program training and medical coders and billers to become U.S.-certified, according to SunStar. Here are five insights:

1. Designated the Medical Coding and Certification program, the course is targeted toward Filipino professionals who specialize in information communications technology.

2. Program participants will be able to gain certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders.

3. The five-week program will involve 200 hours of training and cover fundamental coding skills in an outpatient physician setting.

4. DICT partnered with Healthcare Information Management Association of the Philippines and TeleDevelopment Services to create an assessment process for those interested in applying.

5. The top 28 applicants will qualify for training and be eligible for employment at HIMAP member companies. Only the top 14 will be permitted to take the certification plan.
