Pennsylvania ASCs report 1.1M visits in 2017, generating $1.3B total net revenue

The Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council released finance statistics on 289 ASCs operating in the state.

Here are the key statistics to know:

1. The total profit margin for Pennsylvania’s ASCs decreased .31 of a percentage point compared to fiscal year 2016. The average operating margin dipped .20 of a percentage point.

2. ASCs reported 1.1 million outpatient visits during the 2017 fiscal year.

3. The net outpatient revenue for ASCs increased 3.3 percent from $1.3 billion to $1.34 billion for the 2017 fiscal year.

4. ASCs performed 985,104 outpatient surgical procedures in the 2017 fiscal year, which is an increase from the 974,873 performed the year prior.

5. Procedures performed at ASCs represented 25.9 percent of the total outpatient surgical procedures performed in Pennsylvania; 74.1 percent were performed at general acute care hospitals’ outpatient departments.
