Payers that leave New York exchange barred from participating in state’s Medicaid program — 3 key notes

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that any payer leaving the state’s health insurance exchange would be barred from participating in the state’s Medicaid program, New York Upstate reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Mr. Cuomo is requiring payers in the exchange to guarantee the 10 essential health benefits guaranteed through the ACA.

2. Mr. Cuomo said in a statement, “We will not stand idly by as ultra-conservatives in Washington try to roll back the progress we have made to expand access [to] quality, affordable healthcare, putting our most vulnerable New Yorkers at risk.”

3. The state is also attempting to prevent discrimination by gender, age or pre-existing conditions.
