Only Iowa ACA insurer may leave marketplace: 4 points

A Medica spokesperson said the payer, which is the sole insurer offering ACA coverage in Iowa, may exit the exchange in 2018, according to Bloomberg.

Here are four points:

1. The spokesperson said in an email to Bloomberg the payer cannot provide coverage without funding from state or federal officials.

2. The state insurance regulator said Iowa officials can only offer limited help and it is Congress' responsibility to step in.

3. An Iowa Insurance Division spokesperson said in an email to Bloomberg the division is concerned about Medica's plans and they fully understand the company's concerns. The spokesperson wrote, "This is a problem caused by the ACA and needs to be fixed by Congress.

4. Wellmark and Aetna made headlines earlier this year when they announced they were withdrawing plans from Iowa's ACA exchange.
