Ohio auditor: Medicaid providers only repaid fraction of $19.7M owed to state — 4 insights

Medicaid providers repaid 9.6 percent of the $19.7 million owed to the state as of November 2017, according to a report by Ohio Auditor Dave Yost. Here are four insights.

1. The auditor's report entails an analysis of 60 Medicaid providers who received improper payments.

2. The providers under review repaid only $1.9 million owed to the state.

3. The Auditor's Medicaid/Contract Audit Section, which reviews providers for compliance with Medicaid regulations, determined $33.3 million was paid to 121 Medicaid providers who were ineligible recipients. The MCA Section calculated an additional $2.4 million in interest.

4. Transportation and home health providers represent 13 to 17 percent of total providers in the Medicaid program but made up more than 86 percent of the $33.3 million in overpayments discovered since 2011.
