In an open letter from the OMIG, the plan is described as a “road map” for the agency’s mission — “developing competencies and carefully reviewing New York Medicaid expenditures and vulnerabilities.” It also highlights the specific areas the agency will concentrate on in the upcoming year.
According to the plan, Gov. David Paterson and the New York State Legislature have set a goal for the OMIG of $870 million in state-share recoveries and cost avoidances. Over the last year the agency has developed “accurate, reliable measures of cost avoidance and developed new techniques to identify potential for cost avoidance in every part of the agency and the Medicaid program.”
An open letter to New York state healthcare providers will be posted later this month on the OMIG Web site and will highlight three priority areas that should be in every provider’s compliance work plan.
