The researchers created a bidirectional map of the ICD-9 and ICD-10 code sets, according to the report. The new tool was described in a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. The study authors found, according to the report:
• 4,127 ICD-10 codes had a clear translation from ICD-19
• 536 ICD-10 codes with class-to-subclass relationships
• 7,478 ICD-10 codes with subclass-to-class relationships
• 57,013 ICD-10 codes with convoluted relationships
• 669 ICD-10 codes with no mapping
