Minnesota Pushes Forward With Health Insurance Exchange

Rachel Fields -

Minnesota is making progress with its health insurance exchange, according to a Duluth News Tribune report.

According to Phillip Cryan of the labor union SEIU Healthcare Minnesota, California and Connecticut are two of the only states further along in the implementation process. Under the Affordable Care Act, every state must have a health insurance exchange, intended to help consumers "comparison shop" for insurance in an online marketplace.

Most states will have made decisions about planning by the end of 2012, in preparation for the 2014 implementation deadline. In Minnesota, the exchange is being overseen by the Department of Commerce rather than the state Legislature, due to a lack of support from Minnesota Republicans.
