Millennials & health insurance: 6 survey findings

The percentage of uninsured millennials has declined to 11 percent, which is an all-time low for this population, according to a new survey by Transamerica Center for Health Studies.

The survey polled 1,171 adults, between ages 18 and 36.

Here are six survey findings:

•    A majority of the reasons for millennials gave for not obtaining coverage before the ACA deadline related to them being uninformed or unaware.
•    Sixteen percent of millennials overall and 47 percent of uninsured millennials do not plan on having insurance in 2017.
•    Around 47 percent of millennials are not planning to purchase insurance due to affordability.
•    African American and Latino millennials are the least likely to be insured.
•    A majority of the uninsured are women (60 percent) and unemployed (68 percent).
•    Sixty-two percent of uninsured millennials say they are in excellent or good health as compared to 79 percent of insured millennials.
