A former Saginaw, Mich., physician will be tried on 23 counts of Medicare fraud and false claims, according to a Jan. 22 news release from the Michigan Attorney General.
What happened?
- Between May 31 and Sept. 27, James Carthron, MD, allegedly billed Medicare for telephone visits he never provided.
- Dr. Carthron formerly operated the PRN Urgent Care, which shuttered in 2023.
- The charges carry a maximum penalty of four years in prison and/or a $50,000 fine per offense.
