Medicare spending increases with patient age

The U.S. population is aging, and naturally healthcare costs rise in older age groups. A new Kaiser Family Foundation study has quantified how much Medicare spending increases in the aging population, according to a Mnet report. Here are three things to know from the study.

•    Medicare beneficiaries ages 80 and older account for the largest portion of Medicare spending.
•    Spending per capita more than doubles in patients ages 70 to 96, increasing from $7,566 to $16,145.
•     Spending declines once again for beneficiaries living in their late 90s and longer.
