The Maryland Health Benefit Exchange is intended to help individuals “comparison shop” for health insurance coverage in an online marketplace, similar to Amazon.com or Ebay.com. In a statement, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown described the legislation as “one of the most critical components of our efforts to reduce costs, expand access and improve the quality of care for Maryland families.”
Both the Senate and House approved exchange bills, and once each bill crosses over and is approved by the opposite chamber, Gov. Martin O’Malley will be given the chance for final approval.
