Kentucky restores dental, vision benefits for Medicaid recipients following outcry — 6 insights

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, R, is reinstating Kentucky Medicaid beneficiaries' vision and dental benefits after cutting the incentives in July, ABC News reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. The coverages were eliminated in early July, following the federal rejection of Mr. Bevin's Medicaid overhaul proposal.

2. About 400,000 Kentucky residents had their care disrupted by the action.

3. Health advocates are praising the reversal.

4. The ruling also blocked the state's proposed work requirement, a staple of President Donald Trump's plan to change Medicaid.

5. The state claimed benefits were being restored to "mitigate the consequences" of the federal ruling.

6. The reinstatement is retroactive to July 1.
