Kansas takes 1st steps towards Medicaid expansion: 3 key notes

Kansas legislators took the first steps towards expanding the state’s Medicaid program when Rep. Dan Hawkins (R-D. 100) agreed to have a debate and committee vote on the issue next week, The Wichita Eagle reports.

Here’s what you need to know.

1. The state Health and Human Services Committee will hear proposals to expand KanCare, the state’s privatized Medicare program.

2. The committee agreed to hear legislation after more than 180 people and health organizations petitioned for the expansion.

3. An American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network survey shows 82 percent of the public supports expanding the state program.
