Indiana Providers to Increase Bundled Payments

Indiana healthcare providers have begun using bundled payments with the goal of reducing costs and improving efficiency, according to The Times of Northwest Indiana.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act created a national pilot program to encourage the use of bundled payments by Medicare healthcare providers, and Jan. 1 was a deadline to expand authority to do so, according to the report.

In addition to giving patients one fee for a procedure with multiple codes, bundled payments also prevent providers from ordering redundant tests. Medicare is currently negotiating with providers to set payment amounts.
