Idaho has avoided a federal takeover of insurance rate reviews, according to a Houston Chronicle report.
According to the report, federal officials said in July they would assume responsibility for reviewing increases of 10 percent or more in insurance premiums proposed by Idaho insurance companies starting Sept. 1. The announcement followed an executive order from Idaho Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter, preventing the state from implementing provisions of the 2010 healthcare reform law.
Gov. Otter has since issued a waiver allowing the state Department of Insurance to comply with federal provisions.
Idaho is among states suing over the healthcare reform law.
