Here are eight changes she shared on ICD-10 Monitor:
1. There are 30 chapters in ICD-11, compared to 21 in the previous version.
2. Each category will have four characters rather than three, and there will be two subcategory levels.
3. The codes range from 1A00.00 to ZZ9Z.ZZ.
4. Extension codes begin with “X.” A chapter devoted to extension codes includes anatomy, agent, histopathology and other criteria that can add detail to the code.
5. “Due to” will refer to the linkage of two conditions with causal relationship. The linkage of two concurrent conditions without causal sequence will be described by the term “associated with.”
6. All three of the code set’s volumes — Index, Reference and Tabular — are required to correctly assign the code.
7. New chapters in ICD-11 include Diseases of the Immune System; Conditions Related to Sexual Health; Codes for Special Purposes; Traditional Medicine Conditions; and Supplementary Section for Functioning Assessment.
