How Ohio Surgery Center approaches price transparency — 4 insights

As price transparency movements gain momentum, Columbus-based Ohio Surgery Center has gotten ahead of the trend by using a price estimator tool on its website.

What you should know:

1. Ohio Surgery Center uses BuildMyBod's price estimator application

2. Plastic surgeon Jonathan Kaplan, MD, originally founded BuildMyBod to help patients learn about procedures and review surgical costs through their iPhones, iPads and PCs.

3. Through the price estimator, patients choose their insurance plan to see what their allowable is. Then, they provide their contact information and automatically receive an email with a breakdown of their estimated out-of-pocket costs.

4. The app is built on the concept that patients are less likely to experience "sticker shock" and more likely to follow through with procedures if they know what to expect before coming in for a consultation.
