American College of Emergency Physicians commissioned a poll which found many emergency room patients put off care due to escalated out-of-pocket medical costs, according to Wisconsin Public Radio.
Here are five things to know:
1. The poll found 72 percent of physicians saw patients with $200 or more co-pays.
2. Eighty-three percent of physicians had patients who forewent or delayed care due to high deductibles.
3. Lisa Maurer, MD, an ER physician at Milwaukee-based Wheaton Franciscan, said more policies offer low premiums and inadequate coverage since the ACA's implementation.
4. Premiums are expected to increase in 2017 due to high medical costs.
5. A GOBankingRates.com survey found Americans ranked healthcare costs as their top economic burden.
