Here’s what you need to know.

1. Antitrust lawyer David Balto believes that federal antitrust litigation is a nonpartisan effort.

He says the belief that the recent election would eliminate the Justice Department’s challenge to the two insurance mergers “could not be more wrong.”

2. While the Justice Department’s challenge may be the new trend during President Barack Obama’s term, aggressive action against healthcare monopolies dates back as far as Former President Bill Clinton.

3. Mr. Balto said to Forbes that the foundation of antitrust legislation is a “wide bipartisan consensus to respect the crucial role of the law to protect competition and the marketplace.”

4. Mr. Trump expressed a desire to increase competition in the healthcare arena during his campaign. The insurance company mergers would greatly decrease competition.
