Three strategies he shared:
1. Going in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Both Dr. Perri and his surgical facility are in network with BCBS, giving patients access to the Global 1 bundled payments program.
2. Shifting cases from the hospital to the ASC. “We can perform nearly all spine surgeries at our surgery center provided the patient is healthy and covered from an insurance standpoint,” Dr. Perri said.
3. Embracing pre-negotiated bundled rates. Dr. Perri manages and directs a bundled payment process that allows patients or their insurers to make a single payment for the entire episode of care.
