Computer-assisted coding can help medical coders in many ways, including through increasing consistency and productivity, but coders should be wary of relying too heavily on CAC applications, according to an ICD-10 Watch report.

Breakdowns in the system can occur if physicians are not providing the correct content needed for accurate coding. Even with perfect clinical documentations, coders will always need to verify the suggested codes to eliminate potential accuracy problems.
