Could the AHCA advance to Congress? 7 fast facts ahead of its Thursday vote

Many Democratic and Republican Representatives have expressed their thoughts on the American Health Care Act in advance of its possible House vote on March 24, 2017. NPR compiled their responses in a searchable database.

Here are seven fast facts:

1. The AHCA needs 216 votes to advance to the Senate. The House has five vacant seats, lowering the majority needed from 218.

2. All 194 Democratic Representatives oppose the AHCA.

3. Fifteen Republican representatives directly oppose the bill, NPR reports.

4. If more than 21 Republicans vote against the AHCA, the bill fails.

5. More than 50 Republican representatives have offered equivocal support of the measure.

6. If the bill does advance to the Senate, it faces a similar approval path. Republicans hold 52 seats to the Democrats 48 seats. The bill needs 51 votes to advance. Six Republican and all Democratic Senators oppose the bill, NPR reports.

7. Republican opposition centers around two major opinions. More conservative Republicans want an outright ACA repeal and moderate-leaning Republicans believe the coverage losses the bill could cause would be too severe. Those moderates want the AHCA revised to limit coverage losses.
