Colorado man leaves medical billing job to run across the country — 5 quick facts

Joe Turcotte of Colorado quit his work-from home medical billing job to set out on an estimated 6-million-step journey across the U.S., The Gazette reports.

Here are five quick facts:

1. Mr. Turcotte plans to run 3,000 miles through 13 states while pushing a baby stroller filled with survival gear.

2. He was a refund investigator for a medical billing company.

3. Mr. Turcotte decided to set out on the run after his church pastor asked what he would do if he could do anything.

4. A triathlon and marathon runner, he has dubbed the run “6 Million Steps of Gratitude.” Mr. Turcotte is attempting to raise at least $30,000 for a pair of nonprofits.

5. The 59-year-old started April 28 in Boston and expects to finish before Labor Day in Oceanside, Calif.
