Coding tip of the day: Understand the importance of operative reports

Coders should pay close attention to operative reports, according to Beth Morgan, Medical Bill Consultants‘ president and CEO.

Ms. Morgan shared the following tip with Becker’s ASC Review:

“Read the op reports carefully to make sure that you are coding the correct procedure. Also, do not be afraid to query the physician if uncertain. Make sure that the op report matches the patient.”
