CMS updated its 2018 Merit-based Incentive Payment Systems web-based tool to help physicians check their eligibility for 2018, AAFP reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The tool will tell physicians if they're eligible when they enter their 10-digit national provider identifier.

2. The 2018 MIPS performance year began Jan. 1.

3. CMS changed the eligibility threshold for 2018 to exclude physicians and groups that bill $90,000 or less in Medicare Part B charges or furnish services that are covered under the physician fee schedule to 200 or fewer Medicare Part B patients.

4. CMS is in the process of updating another tool that indicates whether a physician or group is participating in MIPS.
