CMS extends meaningful use reporting deadline: 4 key notes

CMS postponed the meaningful use deadline for physicians from Feb. 28, 2017 to March 13, 2017, Medscape reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. CMS is phasing out such reporting this year, but physicians must still report their meaningful use measures for 2016 to avoid a possible 3 percent penalty.

2. CMS expects to penalize some 171,000 physicians for failing to report meaningful use in 2015.

3. CMS didn’t provide a reasons as to why it is pushing back the deadline.

4. Medscape theorizes, “It is possible that CMS wants to give physicians every opportunity to attest before the window closes.”
