CMS, CDC release new ICD-10 codes, early: 4 insights

The American Hospital Association and American Health Information Management Association praised CMS and the CDC for releasing thousands of new ICD-10 and clinical modification codes early, according to FierceHealthIT.

1. Instead of waiting until Oct. 1, CMS updated 3,651 procedural coding system codes in March.

2. The CDC released 1,943 clinical modification codes in March, as well.

3. The AHA reported it was “grateful” for the codes’ early release.

4. The AHIMA commended the early release, as it offers more preparation time and improves specificity.
