Here’s what you should know.
1. The California Senate can introduce and vote on the bill as soon as next week.
2. Appropriations Committee Chairman Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens (Calif.), introduced the bill, and was an advocate for its advancement through the committee.
3. The $400 billion price tag exceeds the state’s entire budget.
4. Mr. Lara has yet to reveal the bill’s funding.
5. If successful, the bill would give all 40 million residents of California health insurance.
6. The bill has an amendment requiring funding to be in place before it can take effect. Mr. Lara does not expect to have a financing plan in line before a possible Senate vote.
