Here’s what you should know:

1. Mr. Alexander said Sept. 29, the bill he drafted with Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., should have final language agreed upon today. He and Ms. Murray will review the bill with party representatives this week.

2. Mr. Alexander anticipates submitting the bill to Senate leadership by the end of the week.

3. Mr. Alexander said, “What we’re trying to do is not just see whether Sen. Murray and I can agree, but whether the two of us can find a significant number of Democrats and Republicans who can agree on a limited, bipartisan proposal that could actually pass.”

4. Ms. Murray is “hopeful” the Senate can reach an agreement soon.

5. The bipartisan fix could give states flexibility in the type of policies they approve. The bill would also extended insurer cost-sharing subsidies for two years.
