Seventy-six percent of ASCs now use an EHR system, according to the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association’s July 2025 60-Second Survey.

That figure is up from 64% in 2023 and 55% in 2021, marking a 36% increase in four years.

The survey gathered 280 responses from ASCs across 42 states.

Here are five more survey notes to know:

1. EHR use was highest among physician-owned centers (82%), compared with 72% for management company joint ventures and 71% for hospital-affiliated ASCs.

2. Among ASCs using EHRs, 76% said they would recommend their system to other centers.

3. Data gathering tops the benefits list. For the first time since 2021, data gathering was the most commonly cited benefit, with 87% of centers identifying it as an advantage.

4. Eighty-five percent reported efficiency gains. By comparison, fewer centers pointed to higher quality of care (33%) or improved patient satisfaction (24%), both slightly down from 2023.

5. Of the ASCs not using an EHR, 68% plan to stay with paper charts until required to switch, up from 59% in 2023. Nearly half (49%) cited cost as the main reason for not implementing a system.
