Anthem, Cigna readying for legal battle after merger fails: 4 key notes

Anthem and Cigna are readying for an impending legal battle concerning their possible post merger breakup, the CTMirror reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The two payers have another case scheduled in Delaware May 8.

2. The case will potentially allow Cigna to free itself from the merger deal and collect its breakup fee and other possible damages.

3. If the merger isn't completed, Anthem owes Cigna $1.85 billion. Cigna is suing Anthem for approximately $14 billion in additional damages.

4. The CTMirror reports that Anthem is still considering asking the Supreme Court to review its case. Several experts believe the Supreme Court will not review the case.
